Why people use NetCheck

  • Local servers. Tests run on Cloudflare’s network with servers in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
  • Data saver for mobile and LTE. Keep tests small when every megabyte counts.
  • Plain-English results. Not just numbers — we tell you if you can stream 4K, game or take video calls.
  • Down for everyone, or just you? Our checker tests websites from our servers and from your device.
  • Private by design. Your speed history is saved only on your own device.

Frequently asked questions

Is NetCheck free?

Yes. Every tool on NetCheck is free to use, with no sign-up and no app to install. The site is supported by advertising.

Which speed-test servers does NetCheck use?

Tests run against Cloudflare’s global network, which has servers in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. You are automatically tested against the server closest to you, so results reflect what you actually get in South Africa.

Will the speed test use a lot of mobile data?

A full test on fast fibre can use a few hundred MB. Switch on Data saver (on by default when we detect a mobile network) to keep a test to roughly 15–60 MB — much less on slower connections.

How do I know if a website is down or if it’s just me?

Type the address into our Is it down? checker. We test it from our servers and from your device, so you can see whether the problem is the website or your own connection.

My internet is slow — where do I start?

Run the free diagnosis. It tests your speed, lag, stability and access to popular services, then gives you a prioritised fix list and a report you can send to your provider.
